A walk inside St George's |
Time to think?
William Bruges left many valuable gifts to St George's Church on his death. Many of these have now gone, but the early words of his will remain as an example to us all.
First and foremost I bequeath my soul to the great mercy of our Lord God Jesus, who suffered pain and passion of his great mercy to bring my wretched soul from carnal pain and damnation to the eternal bliss and redemption.
Bruges' gifts have helped to maintain the life and work of St George's Church over the centuries. His trust in Christ, expressed in his will is still the essence of the Christian gospel, and still the basis of the work of this church. Christ still calls people to follow Him, and to give their lives to serve Him.
Jesus said:
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
St Paul said:
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance : Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
St John said:
If anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the means by which our sins are forgiven.
